Simple methods to lose 50lbs in a year

Many people find losing weight hard. However if you just follow a few simple rules the weight should start to fall off you. The most important rule is to consume fewer calories than you actually burn.

Secondly you aim to try and burn an extra 3,500 calories on a weekly basis. That works out at burning an additional 500 per day, which should be achievable. If you did this you would expect to lose about 1lb per week or 50 lbs over a year. If you have had difficulty losing weight in the past the likelihood is that you are consuming more calories than you actually expend.

Although 1lb per week may not seem like a large amount, if you are doing it on a consistent weekly basis it will start to add up and after 4 months you should be over 14lbs lighter.

How do I burn more calories than I consume?

  • Try to swap fizzy drinks and alcohol for water. Everybody should aim to drink at least 2 liters of water per day.
  • Aim to exercise for at least 15- 20 minutes per day. Ease yourself into it during the first month. Incorporate a few crunches, jogging in place, and some pushups. This should help you burn up to an additional 100 -150 calories per day, depending on your height and metabolism.
  • Swap fatty foods for healthy foods. Try to eat more fruit, more veg, lean meats and oily fish.
  • Have more sex! Sex is wonderful exercise and has many health benefits. 30 minutes of sex should burn between 150 - 300 extra calories.
  • Substitute sugary snacks with fresh fruit. Sweets, ice cream, chocolates, donuts etc should be cut down and replaced with bananas, apples, goji berries
  • Start your day with a healthy breakfast. Try some whole-grain cereal plus soy milk or low-fat milk.
  • Choose to take the stairs instead of the elevator. This could help you to burn an additional 100 calories per day.
  • Choose skimmed milk as opposed to full fat milk. This will reduce calorie intake by 200 -250 per day.
  • You can save up to 300 calories per day if you only use tiny amount of butter on baked potatoes, bread or toast etc.
  • If you are out driving on the road all day, prepare a box of healthy snacks to take with you.
  • Red sauce pasta is better than white since cream sauces have greater calorie content.
  • Try to reduce the amount of frying. Prefer boiling, steaming or baking instead.
  • After a meal, let your food digest for at least 20 minutes before having anything else. This is the amount of time it takes for brain to register that you are full.

These are just a few simple ideas that if followed will help you shed over 50lbs in a year.
