5 Portions of fruits and veg per day
Consuming the suggested 5 daily servings of fruits and vegetables is a significant element of healthy eating. For the past 8 years, the government has been attempting to establish a “5 a day” campaign. Research shows that consuming 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day can provide excellent health benefits. It can avert heart illnesses and other types of cancers. However, most people ignore this advice as it is estimated that only 1 in 7 actually do this.
Don’t forget that canned, frozen, juiced fruit and veggies have the same nutrients as fresh. This means that you still have time to purchase healthy foods even if you lead a hectic lifestyle.
Exotic and imported fruit and vegetables are amazingly cheap.
- Select fresh fruits and veggies which are in season, not only are these affordable they also taste great.
- You can choose to get the branded frozen or tinned fruits and veggies in the supermarket.
Try a variety of vegetables and fruits on a weekly basis to discover which ones you enjoy the most. Make it a goal to achieve the 5 a day quota. Keep in mind that you do not need to incorporate all 5 servings in one go. If you are not used to an immediate change may cause some mild discomfort. Do it bit by bit, gradually adding one variety at a time.
We recommend starting a food journal in order to track your progress and see if you really are consuming 5 portions of fruit and veg per day.
